About NELA

Northwest Education Loan Association® (NELA) is a not-for-profit company in the financial aid industry that encourages students to pursue education after high school. NELA offers free resources and expertise so students and their families can successfully plan and pay for higher education.

Since 1978, NELA has administered the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), which provides low-cost loans to students and their parents. Working in partnership with schools, banks and other lending institutions, the company guarantees education loans against default. This guarantee provides insurance that the loans will be repaid and is important as it encourages financial institutions to lend money to students who often have no credit history or collateral. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, NELA is the designated guarantor for the states of Washington and Idaho, and primarily serves the Western States.

About College Success Foundation

The College Success Foundation (CSF) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to increase baccalaureate degree attainment for low-income students and students of color.

CSF accomplishes its mission by:

  • Developing public-private partnerships to raise scholarship funds and increase awareness of the inequities in access to higher education faced by low-income students and students of color
  • Providing innovative scholarships, mentoring and support programs to assist low-income and students of color at the middle school and high school levels
  • Advocating at the state and federal level to increase college access opportunities for all students

Since inception, the Foundation has funded more than 4,600 scholarships through five scholarship programs, including the Washington State Achievers Scholarship Program, the Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth, Costco Scholarship Fund, Chateau Ste. Michelle Scholarship Fund and the Leadership 1000 Scholarship Fund. Through the year 2007, more than 900 CSF scholars have graduated from college with bachelor’s degrees and have gone on to pursue their chosen professions or enter graduate school.
